Anton Yakushev is an artist, metal sculptor, educator and mentor, lives and works in Bend, OR.
Member of the Artist Blacksmith’s Association of North America (ABANA), the Central Oregon Metal Arts Guild (COMAG), an honorary member of the International Academy of Contemporary Arts. He studied Fine Arts at the State Pedagogical University in Kolomna (Moscow region, Russia).
Being invited by museums, art schools, professional art communities Anton conducts educational programs on metal sculpture in the United States and internationally. He’s been working with art metal for more than 18 years, his art work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally all over the world. Anton creates metal sculptures and works of art of varying themes and dimensions, each hand crafted with extraordinary attention to detail. Every intricate piece is hand forged from bare metal, no casting involved. Made from steel with occasional accents of copper and bronze, and finished with a unique patina designed exclusively for that piece. Works include sculptural, art in functional forms, series of compositions, etc. It differs from all metal sculpture in that all the pieces in each artwork are hand-forged individually and then assembled together in an extremely sophisticated form with an incredible eye for metal movement, flow and vividness. Usually each sculpture contains of more than 100 hand-hammered pieces. Every work of art is one of a kind.
A series of Anton’s artworks were selected for the international scientific research project “Musée Imaginaire by Mihail Chemiakine. Anthology of forms – Bandaged figure in art”, Mihail Chemiakine is a world-class artist whose works are in collection of Metropolitan Museum in NYC. Anton received the Governor Award for his 11 feet tall stainless steel sculptural composition titled the Water Carrier that he built in Russia in 2012. It’s a national monument of cultural heritage in Russia. Since 2019 his artwork “Katydid” was chosen for the permanent collection at the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, TN where he was invited to teach. In February 2020 his sculpture “The Life Circle” won both the People’s Choice Award and the competition’s juried Grand Prize at the Fire Pit and Sculpture Competition in Bend, Oregon and was installed in Prineville, OR. In the exposition of Ken Scott’s Imagination Gallery in Oregon visitors can see the “Praying Mantis” sculpture that was built together with the Central Oregon Metal Arts Guild artists. The 10 feet tall “Eagle” sculpture was installed as part of the permanent exterior collection of the High Desert Museum in Bend, OR in 2024.
