Lori Orlando, Pastel, Colored Pencil and Oil Artist

Lori’s love of color, crisp lines and detail has led her on a journey to discover the media of pastels, colored pencils and oils. Her fascination with these media evolved from her passion for color and how it relates to light and shapes. Her realistic style of painting focuses on wildlife, landscapes and still-life. Her subject matter usually reflects nature, but can include anything from food, birds to buoys. Lori says, “If something calls me to paint, then it must be.”

Like many others, Lori’s art began in a totally different direction. A fascination with textiles intrigued Lori. Originally, she designed and created art quilts and knitted garments which inspired her interest in the world of art. When exploring art, Lori began with colored pencils because of the ability to control the medium. She says she “enjoys pastels for their buttery texture and ease to blend on many surfaces. They lend themselves to soft subdued finishes unlike oils where I can express myself with bold, strong colors, crisp lines and detail. I love how all mediums allow me to work slowly, giving me time to become totally absorbed in every aspect.” The play of color, light, and shadow as it develops in a painting gives Lori a sense of excitement, anticipation and fulfillment in each work.

Lori believes each of us is blessed with unique talents. “It is an honor for me to use mine to create, inspire and promote art,” remarks Lori.
