One of my earliest memories as a young boy growing up in Denver is of cutting out pieces of paper and taping them together to make 3-D forms and objects and later on I discovered model kits.  I’ve always been drawn to art and craft and enjoyed silversmithing and lapidary in high school and even became the teacher’s assistant.  My intent was to become an architect but fortune intervened and I ended up becoming an architectural illustrator which led to my developing an interest in design.  Eventually I started my own design firm in Denver and produced a wide range of designs including graphics, signage, advertising, packaging, interiors, furniture and product design for companies and organizations of all sizes.

Missing the hands-on aspect of crafts, I took a course on hand-building with clay at the Arvada Arts Center and realized how much I loved the tactile aspect of it and the immediacy of coming up with forms and making them work.  I started incorporating my design background and wide range of interests including nature, modern art and architecture to explore the sculptural possibilities of utilitarian objects in clay.  My intent is to investigate the complexities of form and surface while creating pieces that engage the mind and the heart.

My wife and I relocated to Bend to be nearer family which provided me with the opportunity to fulfill my architecture fix by designing our new home.  I’ve been blessed to get paid for having fun and being able to live in beautiful places and witness nature.
